Application:

Valve Guide T400742 is a precision-engineered inlet guide produced for Perkins T4.236 and AT4.236 turbocharged 4.0 L diesels; the same guide is also specified for the later 1506A-E88TAG2/3/4/5 and 1506D-E88TAG series, so you will find it in everything from 80-120 kVA agricultural tractors and combine harvesters to JP230-300 AE60/AE56 generator sets and common industrial sweepers, compressors and forklifts that rely on these engines for continuous high-load operation.

Technical specifications:

The guide is finished to an outside diameter of 15.92 mm so it can be pressed into the cylinder head with the recommended 0.05 mm interference fit; the bore is held to 8.00 mm ±0.01 mm to give the correct 0.04-0.06 mm running clearance on the standard 8 mm inlet valve stem, while the overall length of 52 mm provides full support from the spring seat to the port face. Concentricity is held within 0.02 mm to prevent side loading, and the 15° upper lead-in chamfer speeds assembly and protects the stem during the first hours of operation.

Material & performance features:

Cast from a high-duty grey iron alloy that already contains nodular graphite for self-lubrication, each guide is then plasma-gas-nitrided at 540 °C to produce a 0.02-0.04 mm white layer with surface hardness above 800 HV; this gives excellent scuff resistance against today’s low-sulphur fuels while the untouched core retains toughness to resist cracking under thermal shock.
